Some more Information

Kavaledurga fort is around 18 kilometers from Thirthahalli. No public transport available to the location. Apart from the fort, you can visit to the beautiful Place - Rashtra Kavi Kuvempu's house which is converted as a museum now. The place is very serene. Kavi Shaila which is the place where Kuvempu used to write most of his poems is a place to be visited.

My Experience and Opinion

Kavaledurga fort is one of those secluded forts in Karnataka which offers some trekking space too. Trekking here is fun since there will not be much of crowd. The fort is far away from Bangalore and hence from travellers. Also, people who travel near Thrithalli and Agumbe have multiple options to trek and hence the crowd is sparse here. I would suggest you to trek here if you are anywhere near Thirthahalli/Agumbe/Udupi etc. The fort offers a decent trek and will help you take some sweat out. The trek route has a temple in which temple fair happens once in a year and apart from that, not much of daily rituals done here. The fort is near Thirthahalli. In the base of the trek, there is hardly anything other than a home of a villager. En route trek there is nothing available and hence carry enough water or eatable if you wish to relax in the peak. You can cover the trek route to and fro in ~ 3-4 hours if you dont take any big breaks. I do not recommend this trek if you are travelling all the way from Bangalore till there. But, definitely a good place to cover if you are anywhere near by Thirthahalli.

Coming to my experience, this was one of the special treks since it was one of my solo treks. This time, solo trek can be taken in it's literal meaning - 'solo'. Entire trek route, I was the only person. After travelling almost every alternative week when I was working, I had to give a break to travel during my masters in Manipal. But, I could not stop myself from going here and I today feel happy for doing this. The trek gave me all together a different and adventurous feel since the fort was totally secluded. En route the trek, apart from me, only a couple of monkeys were there. Even the temple area was secluded. People usually go only till temple and return since it feels as if that is the peak. But, there is a route further towards the peak and one should not return simply half way during trek. Peaks may not have any special view but peak has the special name called - 'the peak' which is why you should trek till the peak.
I wish not to make a post longer than the trek itself and hence I stop this short post on Kavaledurga here!
