Some more Information

There is a big list of places to be visited in Delhi. Plan your route for the day and jot down the places based on Priority. Some places are extremely crowded during holidays and be flexible with your plans. Most importantly, plan such that you can spend some time in Akshardham in the evening. Some of the places like Karol Bagh, Akshardham, Lotus temple, Red Fort and some other markets are closed on Mondays and hence you hardly get any major places to visit on Mondays. So avoid Mondays in Delhi. Enterance to Rashtrapathi Bhavan is allowed on limited days and you can take an online pass for the same. Hence, do take it and make it to Rashtrapathi Bhavan.

My Experience and Opinion

I am not sure where to start with and which one to be explained in priority. Let me go with the order we visited. In the North India trip of 2015-16, we visited Delhi on first and the last but 1 day. We planned it that way since our flight was to and from Delhi.

Qutub Minar

Since it was Holiday season, almost all the places we visited were extremely crowded and Qutub minar was not an exception. However, Qutub Minar is located inside a huge fort and hence you dont feel as if you are walking in a fish market unlike in some other places. Once you enter the main gate, you find people everywhere but sparsed. You may hire a guide here since it is good to know the history. Unfortunately we had not hired a guide and hence no 1st hand review on guides here. It is good if you visit during evenings or morning to capture some good photographs. Apart from Qutub Minar itself, ruins of the fort exitsts and you can easily spend an hour to two here.

India Gate

Whole of Delhi gives you a Nationalist feeling. The flags waving in all the government buildings and seeing all the decision making centers in Delhi gives you that feel. India Gate adds to that feeling filling you with Patriotism. The eternal flames - Flame of the Immortal Soldier (Amar Javan Jyothi) and the reversed rifle with war cap just adds to the feel. We simply stood seeing it for long in spite of hot sun burning us. There is all together a different feeling here. The place is too crowded yet to be visited once.

Raj Path and Rashtrapathi Bhavan

The wide road, the government buildings, the Indian Flag all around, the security and the feel you get there is something to experience in life. Vehicles are allowed till Rastrapathi Bhavan but no parking allowed. Hence, park vehicle somewhere and have a long walk in Rajpath. You can experience it better while walking. All major offices of centeral government are in this road and at the end of the road is Rashtrapathi Bhavan. Unfortunately, we did not know that passes are to be collected online and you can get entry to Rashtrapathi Bhavan. Hence, could not visit there. Nevertheless, it was a good experience at least to see all those major buildings where decisions that matter to entire country are taken. You can see India Gate from Rajpath and the long road connecting the two makes it a perfect place to click some pics.

Shopping in Delhi

Shopping in Delhi is probably a fun to all kind of people. We had bought a couple of items just for the fun of bargaining and getting it for cheaper price. But, be assured that how much ever you bargain, you will ultimately feel that you would have got it for lesser price. The shopping streets of Delhi are famous for such kind of shopping experience and if you are poor in bargaining, then I guarantee that you will get a 'makmal topi' for free there. Karol Bagh is the main shopping area of Delhi. Avoid being there on Mondays since the street remains closed on Mondays. Have a fun time shopping in Delhi.

Akshardham and the most fantastic evening of the trip

Akshardham Delhi is one of the finest places I have ever visited and the main reason for these words is the experience I got in the sound and light show organized. I had already visited Akshardham of Gandhinagar Gujrath. Akshardham temples are more of tourist spots than temple. The high security, the money, the trustees and the location have brought celebrity status to Akshardham temples. But, they are worth visiting for the architecture and the way they organize sound and light event. I wonder even four eyes would not have been sufficient to experience it. In spite of knowing a bit of technology, I am clueless on how they have organized it. Hence, do not miss Akshardham and when you visit, keep atleast 3-4 hours along. Visit during evening since sound and light show is organized at about 7.00 pm. Akshardham temples have highest security and they do not allow to take anything except your dress and wallet. (Camera, Mobile, Steel items, Sharp items etc are not allowed.) The sound and light show revolves around a story and they depict the entire show using fountains, laser show, display and also act by humans. Overall a wonderfull blend of art and technology.

After Akshardham, we headed to Agra-The-Taj-City via Yamuna Express highway. Overall, the entire evening, I was occupied with the scenes of sound and light show of Akshardham.
