Better to visit during saturdays and sundays since school kids will be available there to show the caves. The caves are not too big and lengthy. Do not expect too much from the word 'cave' used all around in internet world.
My Experience and Opinion
I have a very special feeling attached to Antharagange since it was my first travel, trek and also my first post in my personal blog after I shifted to Bangalore. Also, the pic taken here has been my favourite till date. The feel of sitting on top of a rock in the mountain is unmatchable. It was kind of not so famous trekking spot back in 2012 when I visited. However, these days, it is being visited by many since it is one of the easiest trekking destinations to post photos in instagram with HashTag #Trekking !
Met a lady near the temple area whom I still remember after 4 years while writing this blog. Found a sign board cautioning presence of Leopards. Asked the lady if leapords are there and she had answered in a sarcastic tone as "Yes yes there are many, go up you will find...!" Such people make your trip memorable one!
The Trek
Overall, Antharagange trek is an easy one with not huge distance to cover or the peak does not even challenge you. However, if you want a one day get away with a mini trek, Antharagange is a good option. To brief about trek, Antharagange base is 2kms from Kolar Bus Stand and reaching here is not a difficult task. On Climbing a few steps, you reach the temple area. Be aware there a lot of monkeys who might be waiting for you to get something which they can snatch from you.
From the temple area, take a slight left and walk uphill for a few minutes and you reach the peak. Visit only during weekends since you will find a few kids who can help you find the small caves around. You need to take help of these kids without which it is impossible to search any caves around. Do not expect much from 'caves' since these are simply some route found in gaps between rocks. Some 10-15 mins can be spent in exploring rocks. If you visit during evenings, the rocks around must be best place to give you face to the breeze and have a good view of the town and villages around. Bangalore to Kolar Road is both famous and infamous. It is infamous for accidents and hence do take care while riding. The accident which had taken place in the road on the day when we were heading back from Kolar is still fresh in my mind. Have a happy and safe ride and enjoy the nature.
