Some more Information
Point 1 – Switzerland is expensive. No – It is very expensive! Point 2 – Switzerland is Beautiful. No – It is very Beautiful! If you are ok with point one, pack your bag today and leave to Switzerland. I as a traveler have not seen any places more beautiful than Switzerland. We in India have more beautiful mountains than that of Switzerland and the Alps. But, rest of it in Switzerland is something unmatchable! For travellers, a big confusion is if we need to convert Euros to Swiss Francs before going there. You dont have to. Euros are accepted in every place. But, they do not return change in Euro but only in Swiss Francs. If you are going back to rest of Europe from Switzerland, Francs is not accepted in any other country. So, make sure you spend all there itself or have enough to convert to Euros in Conversion centers. The photos below don’t really do justification to what I have seen through my eyes. All through the way from Italy to Switzerland, did not get a chance to click since the bus was not stopped anywhere. But, we were lucky that it was a day travel. The land around highways are absolutely brilliant with vibrant colors. If the high planes are covered with green carpet, the sky above it painted with blue. The white cloud patches in between make it look like a dream land. And, this dream land is spread for hundreds of miles together. The highway from Italy to Zurich has numerous tunnels since they have done a brilliant job in making the highways a flat one avoiding all mountains!
My Experience and Opinion
Sometimes, we fall short of words while explaining somethings. I have written this sentence after trying to come up with multiple sentences to explain my experience but I failed to satisfy myself. Undoubtefly, it was an amazing experience to travel by the side of Alps all the way from Venice via Verona. There is a clear difference in the culture, nature and the buildings as soon as you cross Italy-Swiss border. For miles together, both sides of roads you find only green low mountains and once in a mile or so you see a black coloured small homes. This whole scene gives a different feel altogether. Switzerland is highly expensive compared to rest of Europe, but still worth it.
Zurich
When a city turns out to be economical capital of the country, it is bound that it loses its heritage and old charm. But, a small part of this city still holds it. Spending an evening here is romantic and calm. The old town part of Zurich is calm and chilled. We had 2 evenings here since our stay was arranged here. Hence, we could explore some part of it. There are couple of Indian restaurants around the old city for people who want to try it. (Costed around 45 Swiss Francs for 2-3 Roti + Veg Curry and a rice item. Pretty expensive!) Opera house in Zurich is a very famous one. But is very expensive! People had lined up in front of it. Could not imagine ourselves paying a heavy amount, stand in a queue and then listen Opera!
If you are visiting old town of Zurich, then do pay a visit to Lidenhof. Lidenhof is a hill from where you get a view of entire old town + the river. Some photos in Photos section below are taken from Lidenhof. It is at a great height and hence a very chilled place. During November, we saw little snow but during winter, it will be covered with snow.
For people who are travelling with your partner, do spend sometime in the bridges of old town Zurich. The breeze, the water, the dimly lighted city and the scant crowd makes the evening a romantic one!
Lucerne
Zurich to Lucerne was yet another beautiful with view of alps, green carpet covered mountains, rivers and tunnels. We just passed via Lucerne to Engelberg. Our organizer had planned it such a way that we got some time to spend in Lucerne city after coming back from Mount Titlis. Spending a couple of hours around the lake in Lucerne was amazing. The alps behind the lake make it a wonderful scene. Did not get good chance to take enough photos as it was raining. Lucerne has plenty of shopping options if you are shopping freak and want to spend a big part of your savings! Sometimes I wonder how these people keep their cities so clean and neat even if it rains, snows and nature challenging them the same way or little more than what nature does to us! Walking in those streets gives you a different feel as those big cars come and stop in front of you just for one reason – That is you want to cross the road. That single feel of having Audi, Mercedes and other big cars waiting for you to cross the road is unmatchable!
Engelberg
Engelberg is a small village/town and is one of the most beautiful places I have seen. The wooden homes make the place a dream town and I wish we had a few places like this in our country where I could go and stay for a couple of days. I do not have enough experience to write about Engelberg other than to call it as one of the beautiful places I have ever been.
Mount Titlis
To say in short – Do not miss this place. Irrespective of the season, this mountain is beautiful. During winter, entire mountain will be covered with snow and during summer, will be covered with greenery. When we visited, we could hardly see anything that was not covered with snow. Lake Trubsee which is present in the mountain had become Ice. Going to the top of Mount titlis is an experience by itself. Pretty sophisticated cable cars take you to the top. There are 2 levels here and the charges are different. There are over hundreds of cable cars that continuously go to the peak even if there is nobody in it. Each cable car has flags of different nation printed over it and finding Indian flag gave a good feeling there. Small snow games are available in the top. Do carry warm cloths if you are visiting during winter. You can spend as much time as you want and the return ticket is valid for the entire day. There are no fixed trips but throughout the day cable cars are available. (They do not stop the cable cars)
