Some more Information

Apart from drinking, partying, one main reason why one should visit Goa is for its beaches. If you are visiting goa for its beaches, then why not stay in beach itself? Beach shacks and resorts are pretty common and are easily available provided you book beforehand. Staying in beach side does not only provide you 24 hours’ access to beach but also lets you see enjoy the true Goan Culture where people from various countries come to enjoy their vacation. Another advantage of staying beach side is that you don’t have to take the pain of carrying all the salt and sand back to your hotel after playing in some beach. Choose a beach, then a shack or resort, book it and enjoy your stay.
(If you are a very big group then opting for a homestay a little far from beach is also not a bad idea since it will be pretty economical. Works for less than INR 2000 per day for even a group of around 10 people.)
Charges for self-driven vehicles in Goa.
Charges purely depends on the season and demand. During off season the charges almost makes you feel that you got the vehicle for nothing.
Gearless vehicles (Activa etc.) INR 250 – 600
Royal Enfield INR 500-1000
Four wheelers INR 1500-3000

My Experience and Opinion

My first visit got Goa was back in 2012 with my college days’ friends. We stayed in a homestay which turned out to be very pocket friendly as we were a big group. It was fun riding a few bikes and with lot of friends. My second visit was with my wife during January 2017. The second time we opted to stay beach side which turned out to be a very good choice.
Goa has only 2 seasons – Rainy and Summer. Avoiding rainy season simply means you will be visiting Goa during summer. It is always better to avoid March-May in Goa unless you want some really bad sunburns. Best time to visit Goa is from September to January. For people who love partying, December and Start of January is best time as you get to party along people from all over the world.

Goa is favorite tourist spot for people from entire country. So, during long weekends, Goa is extremely crowded. I would say, opting to stay in South Goa during such time is best option since crowd is a little sparse there. Nevertheless, south Goa is equally beautiful and reaching any place from any other part of Goa is just a matter of 1-2 hours. I stayed in a beach resort in Sernabatim (Near Colva beach) which was pretty good and personally I enjoyed staying there. Colva beach has good water sports options too. Also, lot of Foreigners opt to take their summer vacation here. If you find them taking sun bath during day, you find them taking long walk along beach side all night. I like the way they define their holiday!

Places not to miss in Goa

There are ‘n’ number of beaches in Goa and all are beautiful in their own way. But some of the beaches that you may not opt to miss are
- Colva Beach in South Goa. (For it’s water sport activities and this is the main beach in South Goa. Around 10 Kilometers from Margao)
- Anjuna Beach (For its windy experience, beach side shopping options, the rocks)
- Calangute Beach (This is the celebrity beach of Goa which most of the tourists visit. Calangute is extremely crowded but Goa is ‘The Goa’ only because of the tourists. So, it is fun to see people too. Calangute has loads of beach side shopping options too.)
- Baga beach. (Very close to Calangute and mostly filled with people from various countries)
Apart from Beaches, Goa also has lot a couple of Forts. Aguada and Chapora forts are beautiful.

Sunset from Chapora Fort.

If you are staying more than a day in Goa, I would say a sunset from Chapora fort is a must to see. Just outside the fort, you can sit and relax where you sit at a height to find sea in front of you and the sunset view is pretty good here. Chapora fort is getting too commercialized and they are building a direct road till the fort. So, the next time you visit, I do not guarantee serenity there!

Aguada Fort

Aguada fort is another fort in Goa which is attracting lot of visitors towards itself. Being in the proximity of various other tourist location has made it more famous. The fort lies in the beach side and also has a light house. Fort has a huge empty area within it and can be a good spot for family. For people who love to get clicked, there are couple of places which make it a good backdrop to your images.

Panjim

Apart from Beaches, Panjim is the main location of interest for tourists. Panjim is the heart of Goa and hosts loads of Casinos, pubs and various destinations for night life. Panjim is growing in a great pace adding to lot of traffic problems and you might end catching up with boring traffic for a while in this city. But, the city is colorful in it’s own way. I would suggest not to take a stay here as it does not give you the real feel of Goa. Take a stay elsewhere but pay a visit here.

Musts in Goa also includes visiting any Goan style restaurant. For veggies like me, it makes little sense to visit a true Goan style restaurant but still, pay a visit to enjoy the ambiance and style.
